- creating short term and long term housing goals
- help with rental applications
- help with budget planning
The main goal of Accommodation/Tenancy is to enhance participants’ ability to access safe, sustainable housing solutions suited to their unique requirements. This can come in the form of mainstream rental schemes or community housing schemes, such as shared living arrangements, group homes, and cluster housing.
As an NDIS participant, you have a choice as to your housing situation. Community housing is recommended for those who prefer to live in the company of other people. Shared living arrangements give you opportunities to meet and befriend new people, building enduring relationships and working together to achieve greater independence. It is also generally a more affordable option, as living costs are shared.
There are several different types of shared living arrangements that vary according to participants’ preferences and needs. Options range from shared apartments to group homes. In the latter case, residents have access to 24 hour support from a full time staff trained to assist with daily activities like personal care, eating and drinking, bathing, and transport.
For participants needing high intensity support due to extreme impairments, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is also available. This ensures that participants have access to housing designed to make it feasible for complex supports to be delivered.
