NDIS Assistive Products for Household Tasks
Find a list of NDIS Assistive Products for Household Tasks . There are currently some Assistive Products for Household Tasks providers offering a range of services.
Supports in this group are for products that help NDIS participants complete day to day household tasks more independently. The NDIS is dedicate to making sure that participants are able to perform essential household functions, for example cleaning, home maintenance, laundry, meal preparation, ironing, gardening and landscaping, and others. That way participants can build independence while creating a tidy, comfortable, and safe living environment for themselves.
Due to their disabilities, many NDIS participants are not able to perform these tasks without assistance. That assistance can come in the form of physical help (e.g. landscaping services) or assistive products and technologies. The main idea behind assistive technology is make it easier for participants to do things they are already capable of doing.
For example, a light switch extension handle makes it easier for people with limited reach to control the lighting in their homes. And adapted mounted table top scissors allows people with impaired hand strength or dexterity to use scissors safely and effectively.
There is a wide range of assistive products designed to help with household tasks. Below are some common examples:
- adapted clocks
- assistive products for washing dishes
- assistive products for cooking and preparing meals
- adapted doorbells
- adapted alarms
- environmental control products
- typing aids
- beverage holders
- adapted gloves
- grip aids
- hand rails
- non-slip bathmats
- large print labels
- large button controls
The NDIS will fund assistive product supports that are expected to help participants build capacity, become more independent, and achieve their personal goals. It will not fund supports that are typically delivered by other agencies, for example the health sector.
